Trip to the Gobi B
A journey to the Takhi in the Great Gobi B broadens your horizon
A unique experience
Travelling to the Gobi B will literally broaden your horizon. You will experience impressive landscapes and a unique flora and fauna, which has adapted to life in this harsh region. The home of the takhi will give you a unique experience of vastness, tranquillity and timelessness.
Rangers from the Great Gobi B SPA Nature Reserve show you the treasures of their homeland. It is impressive how they are able to identify a point close to the horizon as a takhi, gazelle or khulan. Their vast experience and knowledge of living with nature helps visitors to have priceless moments.
Gentle tourism
Gentle tourism is practised in the Great Gobi B SPA. You will explore the area with rangers who know the vast region like the back of their hand. This makes sure that visitors follow the rules, which are essential for the conservation of such a fragile protected area. At the same time, the limited capacity of overnight accommodation prevents mass tourism.
Nevertheless, tourism creates jobs in the region, which is a welcome source of income for the local population. The Great Gobi B can be visited in groups, for study reasons and on individual tours. Find the current travel options:
Group trip (Alumni Uni Zurich/rhz Reisen) - September 2025
“Experience the vastness – meet the people” – this group trip to Mongolia takes place from September 5-18th, 2025. The tour will be guided by biologist Mirjam Würsch and veterinarian Ruth Baumgartner. Both have been to Mongolia and especially the homeland of the Takhi several times through their work for the International Takhi Group (ITG). After many years of visiting Mongolia, they are still overwhelmed by the vast infinity and by the hospitality of the nomads. They are always looking forward to experiencing the Przewalski’s horses in the steppe.
Together with “UZH alumni” and “rhz-Reisen”, they created a multifaceted trip, including both the vibrant capital Ulaanbaatar and the timelessness of the steppe. Thanks to their close contacts to the people in charge of the Great Gobi B SPA Nature Reserve, they are always up to date and can also draw on personal contacts during the trip.
