Takhi-Post, December 2020

After the decision of the Mongolian Parliament to expand the strictly protected area of the Great Gobi B to more than two times the area it was before, the management of the Great Gobi B has now installed 100 new demarcation columns and 29 new information signboards.
The new signs were made possible thanks to the financial support of the Jean-Pierre und Sonja Siegfried Foundation. It provides information about the area and helps to remind the local people and tourists to protect the ecosystem of the Gobi B and the habitat of many endemic species. Furthermore it supports the sustainable growth of the Takhi population.

By the end of the breeding season there are around 320 takhi roaming the Gobi B SPA. They live in 23 breeding harems and 3-5 bachelor groups. In 2020 56 of the 78 mares, identified as pregnant, gave birth to a foal. The number of births has increased, compared to 2019 but however survival is a bit lower. The weather in the Gobi area is now getting colder and people as well as animals are preparing for winter.
